Built-Up Roofing Systems

Time Tested Performance

Built-Up Roofing systems (tar and gravel) inherent redundancies forming the most reliable roofing system for buildings with low-slope roofs. In use since 1840, BUR systems consist of multiple plies of roof felts made of bitumen-saturated organic fiber, fiberglass, or polyester felt laminated together with bitumen.  The system is assembled onsite by lapping the piles and bitumen in several layers. Then covered with a surface coating called a cap sheet to create the multi-layer water impervious membrane.

BROAD RANGE OF APPLICATIONS

RAMCON assembles BUR systems to meet a broad range of designs. Over the years, we have installed tens of millions of square feet of both hot applied (with hot asphalt) and cold applied (with cold process adhesives) roofing systems. Our clients choose BUR because of its low cost of ownership, limited maintenance requirements, and ability to withstand foot traffic.

LONG TERM WARRANTY OPTIONS

SUPERIOR WATERPROOFING

The multiple layers created in the assembly result in a waterproof membrane capable of providing reliable protection from the elements.

WIDE CHOICE OF TOP SURFACING

BUR systems top surfacing have an extensive array of options and application methods to protect the membrane from solar radiation and fire protection. The cap sheets are available in light colors to reflect heat. Top coatings options engineered for BUR roofing include glaze coat of asphalt, aggregate (gravel or slag), fiber, non-fibered, and granule-surfaced cape sheets.

LONG LIFECYCLE COST
