Single-Ply Roofing System
Single-Ply Roofing Systems Options: TPO, EPDM, & PVC
Single-ply roofing systems are a preferred roofing application in Florida because of the relatively low cost, reflective surface, and speed of installation. Single-Ply has a history of performance reliability and reduces the roof’s surface temperature. They also have membrane flexibility and molecularly bonded seams to create one durable roofing system.
Property owners seek the benefits of single-ply reflective roofing for the potential energy savings and its ability to resist organic build-up reducing maintenance costs. The combination of strength, energy-efficiency returns, and economy makes it an increasingly appealing option for our clients.
Single-ply roofing systems consist of two types of membrane: thermoplastic and thermoset. Thermoset membranes are made of ethylene propylene diene monomer (EPDM) called black rubber. Thermoplastics consist of polyvinyl chlorides (PVC) or polyolefin (TPO).
- EPDM formulation and black nature of the product is impractical for Florida roofs.
- PVC (vinyl flat roofing) is malleable, lightweight and offers superior leak protection with proper installation and maintenance.
- TPO is the fastest-growing category of single-ply systems. It offers benefits of EPDM and PVC membranes at a lower cost.
TPO & PVC BENEFITS:
ENHANCED ENERGY EFFICIENCY.
White or Cool Roof’s reflective surfaces exceed the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® requirements and could qualify for LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) credits in several categories. The membrane increase indoor comfort reducing air condition cost and each system installed in a city minimizes the ‘urban heat island’ effects.
LONG LASTING PERFORMANCE.
They resist degradation from ultraviolet (UV) radiation and ozone. Guards against erosion from harmful chemicals and microbial growth. It performs at three times the ASTM International standard for weathering resistance.
EXCELLENT DURABILITY AND STRENGTH.
Available in a range of thickness and puncture resistant membranes to provide enhanced puncture, tear, and abrasion resistance.
QUICK INSTALLATION.
Wider sheets and flexibility of installation make TPO an excellent high-performance system in both new roofs and re-roof applications. RAMCON technicians can mechanically attach TPO or fully adhered PVC systems to produce excellent wind uplifts meeting or exceeding Florida’s stringent building codes. Either method creates one large, seamless roof system, complete with warranties up to 30 years!
